![]() I'm a (light) PC/iOS gamer these days, and it's been at least 10 years since I bought a console. ![]() Are Playstations so locked down that the only network connections they can make are to Sony servers? I'm also slightly baffled as to how Sony gets to be in a position to control cross-play at all? If anything, I would expect cross-play to require the game developer to host their own servers, lightening the load on whatever Sony does to facilitate same-platform multiplayer. What revenue is Sony claiming they lose out on by enabling cross-play? Do PlayStation players have to pay Sony a fee to play multiplayer? Do console users generally? I saw the thing about "if they're playing on PS but paying on iPhone." and it didn't clear it up for me at all, because iPhone users don't pay extra to play online. ![]() I'm having trouble following the money here.
